Menopause Awareness Month: Let’s Talk About It

October is Menopause Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding, break down stigma, and support people experiencing menopause or perimenopause.

Did you know?

  • 42% of menopausal women report that their symptoms are worse or much worse than they expected

  • More than a third of women experiencing menopause say it has affected their work life

Menopause can bring a variety of physical and emotional changes, including hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood swings, and difficulties with concentration. These changes can affect anyone’s wellbeing, and it is important to create a culture of openness and understanding.

Ways to support yourself and others include:

  • Learn and share: participate in forums or discussion groups to share experiences, ask questions, and find guidance

  • Use reliable resources: guidance is available from organisations such as Menopause Matters and The British Menopause Society

  • Start the conversation: encourage open dialogue, listen without judgement, and be flexible when symptoms affect daily life or work

Raising awareness and normalising discussions about menopause helps ensure that everyone feels supported. Whether you are experiencing menopause yourself or supporting someone who is, knowledge and empathy can make a real difference.
